Activities - Week 9 - Friday

Good morning, Year 6!

Some of you have had trouble finding the books on ActiveLearn. They aren't in the Library section - you need to click on the 'My Stuff' section and then on the picture of the green bug that's reading a book. This will take you to Bug Club, which is where the books are.

Maths

Starter
To practise your skills converting between fractions and decimals from yesterday, have a go at this game, where you have to crack a vault using your knowledge of fractions and decimals...

Main Activity
How many of these challenges can you complete? Post your answers in the comments below! (Or email us at year6.cabot@bristol-schools.uk).

GPS - Word Aware

Try this solar system vocabulary quiz or this quiz on natural features and personality adjectives.

Then try this sentence challenge about the picture: Use your senses to write a sentence describing what it is like to be in the woods. What sounds could you hear? Are the sights and sounds of the woods different at different times of day?

Literacy

It's the last lesson in our series on writing a magical door story! Today we're finishing off the resolution, writing the ending and doing an edit (not necessarily in that order).

If we were in school, I'd love to publish these stories. I'll post a half-term blog on Monday with some simple ways of making a booklet from paper. Please email us to a) let us know if you want us to carry on doing video lessons for literacy, and b) share your magical door stories with us!

Topic

Computing

Learn about computer games by watching these videos, reading the information and taking part in the activities: Computer Games.

Library

Listen to either the extract of 'The Girl of Ink and Stars' or the extract of 'Artemis Fowl':

Ms Abram Millar has put together a list with lots of lovely reading resources for you. You can see the list here: Online Reading Resources.

There will be one blog post next week (on Monday), with some optional half-term activities. You can also use half-term to catch up on anything you've not done for a while (especially Topic!).

Have a great week!

Ms Tupman and Mr Town

    1. Hi Amira! Thank you for sharing your answers...

      1. Yes

      2. Check this one - if Rosie gives Mo 25p, she will have 25p less than she started with, and he will have 25p more than he started with... You then have to find the difference between these two new numbers...

      3. Yes

      4. Check this one - I think you have multiplied the perimeter of the hexagon by 4 (42 x 4 = 168). But look at the new shape - the perimeter of this shape is the total length of the sides around the outside of the shape (not the sides on the inside)... How can you work this out?

      5. Check this one - you are nearly there. 2.7kg is what one quarter of a tin of paint weighs... If the tin weighs 3.1kg when it is one quarter full of paint, how much would the empty tin weigh when that one quarter is taken away?

We're looking forward to hearing all about what you've been doing when we speak to you this week! Thank you so much if you've posted a comment on the blog - we have replied to every comment that we've seen. We'd really like to hear some of your 'Magical Door' poems when we call you this week - perhaps you can practise performing your poems before we speak to you? Or, if you prefer, you could post your poems as comments on the blog! If you've been a little slow to return to schoolwork after the holidays, please make sure you've checked the blog posts from the last few weeks. Weekly Activities Literacy 1. Carry on with your diaries. You might not feel that you have anything interesting to write about, but remember that this is a very unusual time. In thirty years or so, your children might be reading your diary to

Ramadan and reading

Ramadan Mubarak, Year 6!  We know that Ramadan this year will be very different to any that you have experienced so far. Please watch this message from Bristol Muslim Strategic Leadership Group (BMSLG), the Mayor of Bristol and others - they very eloquently say all that we wish to say to you:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma3iNRImtbo .  We also have a few reading updates for you! For those of you who have been following along with Miss Davies' Family Performance Poetry Challenge, Ms Tupman's aunt and uncle have decided to join you! Here's their version of 'The Boneyard Rap':  https://youtu.be/RYMP-pN_8Tc . Finally, Miss Davies has made some reading lessons for you. Your parents should have received a text message with the link, but in case they didn't, you can access the lesson here:  https://youtu.be/GqMqvtIb0G4 . It will take you about 20 minutes to do, and there will be a new lesson next Wednesday. Have a lovely weekend, Ms Tupman and M

Activities - Week 12 - Monday

Good morning, Year 6! If you're joining us at school on Wednesday, then your most important job for today and tomorrow is to make sure you're eating dinner and going to bed at a sensible time, getting enough sleep and then waking up at the time you'll need to be waking up for school. Getting into a good routine now will make Wednesday easier! We'll be celebrating Empathy Day tomorrow, but there are things you could do all week to participate. See the information here for more details. We'd love to hear what you do to mark Empathy Day - you can either tell us in school on Wednesday or email us:  year6.cabot@bristol-schools.uk Maths Starter To get ready for today's lesson, spend at least 5 minutes playing Times Table Rock Stars.   Main Activity Today's lesson is about converting between finding a rule in algebra.
