We will update the blog every day from Monday - Thursday this week with daily learning activities. Please check the blog every day and complete the learning that you can.

Literacy

This week, we are going to be writing a story. The idea for your story is the word "Stuck"

Be as creative as you want - who or what could get stuck somewhere, and why could this happen? How could this problem get solved, and what lessons could the characters learn?

Your task today is to plan a story with the title "Stuck", and to write the first (opening) paragraph.
Remember to use this structure to help you plan your story:

Opening (Where is the story set? Who are the main characters? What are they doing at the beginning?)
Build up (What happens next? How does this lead towards what will go wrong?)
Problem (What goes wrong? Someone or something gets stuck somewhere...)
Resolution (How does the problem get sorted out? The person or thing gets unstuck...)
Ending (How does the story end? Does it end happily? Are lessons learned? Is there a twist?)

Then just write the opening paragraph today. We will write the next part tomorrow. If anyone wants to share your opening paragraph, you could type it as a comment on this blog post - we would love to read it!

Reading

Please remember that it is really important to try to keep reading every day. As well as any books, magazines or other reading materials you might have at home, here is a reminder of some of the activities you can be doing each day:

1. If you haven't done Ms Davies's brilliant fluency lesson from last week yet, then you can see the video for it here. I really like this story (but it has quite a nasty ending...)

2. There are loads of fantastic books available to read online on the GetEpic website - we can see that some of you have been using this (well done!) but we would really like to see more of you reading on there. To log on and see how many great books they have, go to www.getepic.com/students and type in our class code: qav6098

3. There are also some brilliant dual language books available at https://uk.mantralingua.com/homereading. These are written both in English and another language, which makes them great to read with families who don't only speak English - the list includes Somali, Arabic, Urdu and many other languages. You may need an adult to help you fill in the form to get to the books.

Word Aware - 'Alison is an acrobat in Asia' game.

Can you complete this game for every member of your family? If you have a lot of people whose names start with the same letter, then try doing it for your friends instead! Here's what we came up with for ourselves: Amy is an artist is Azerbaijan. James is a juggler in Japan. Can you think of any alternatives?

    1. Yes, there will be a blog post every day from now on (except this Friday because it's a Bank Holiday). Because we've been out of school for so long, we'd like you to be taking part in learning activities every day.

We've tried to (roughly) follow your normal timetable, so Topic tomorrow will be PSHE and RE, and on Wednesday it will be French and History.

I hope that makes sense and let us know if you need any help!

Activities - Week 6

Good morning Year 6, It feels like it's been a very long time since we've seen you now, and we miss you all very much. We're looking forward to hearing all about what you've been doing when we speak to you this week! Thank you so much if you've posted a comment on the blog - we have replied to every comment that we've seen. We'd really like to hear some of your 'Magical Door' poems when we call you this week - perhaps you can practise performing your poems before we speak to you? Or, if you prefer, you could post your poems as comments on the blog! If you've been a little slow to return to schoolwork after the holidays, please make sure you've checked the blog posts from the last few weeks. Weekly Activities Literacy 1. Carry on with your diaries. You might not feel that you have anything interesting to write about, but remember that this is a very unusual time. In thirty years or so, your children might be reading your diary to

Ramadan and reading

Ramadan Mubarak, Year 6!  We know that Ramadan this year will be very different to any that you have experienced so far. Please watch this message from Bristol Muslim Strategic Leadership Group (BMSLG), the Mayor of Bristol and others - they very eloquently say all that we wish to say to you:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma3iNRImtbo .  We also have a few reading updates for you! For those of you who have been following along with Miss Davies' Family Performance Poetry Challenge, Ms Tupman's aunt and uncle have decided to join you! Here's their version of 'The Boneyard Rap':  https://youtu.be/RYMP-pN_8Tc . Finally, Miss Davies has made some reading lessons for you. Your parents should have received a text message with the link, but in case they didn't, you can access the lesson here:  https://youtu.be/GqMqvtIb0G4 . It will take you about 20 minutes to do, and there will be a new lesson next Wednesday. Have a lovely weekend, Ms Tupman and M

Activities - Week 12 - Monday

Good morning, Year 6! If you're joining us at school on Wednesday, then your most important job for today and tomorrow is to make sure you're eating dinner and going to bed at a sensible time, getting enough sleep and then waking up at the time you'll need to be waking up for school. Getting into a good routine now will make Wednesday easier! We'll be celebrating Empathy Day tomorrow, but there are things you could do all week to participate. See the information here for more details. We'd love to hear what you do to mark Empathy Day - you can either tell us in school on Wednesday or email us:  year6.cabot@bristol-schools.uk Maths Starter To get ready for today's lesson, spend at least 5 minutes playing Times Table Rock Stars.   Main Activity Today's lesson is about converting between finding a rule in algebra. First, watch this video and have a go at any of the questions in it: Then complete this worksheet: Monday&
