Activities - Week 14 - Wednesday

Good morning, Year 6!

Maths

Starter
To warm up, have a go at a Daily 10 Maths Challenge. Choose your own level of challenge and skill to practise. Have a few goes and see if you can beat your previous score. Or you could challenge someone else in your family!

Main Activity

Today's lesson is about finding the area of parallelograms.

First, watch this video and have a go at any of the questions in it:

Then complete this worksheet: Wednesday's Maths Worksheet.

(Don't forget that you can do this by writing the answers in your book or on a piece of paper - you don't need to print the sheet out.)

Then check your work against the answers: Wednesday's Maths Answers.

Here's the video clip I mention in the lesson: Seven Worlds, One Planet: Africa (watch from 2 minutes in until the end of the section on chimpanzees).

Here's the website where I said you could get extra information about chimpanzees: Chimpanzee Facts. (Be careful - not all of the facts are about chimps' talents!)

Bonjour les enfants !

This week I have a video for you about lots of birthday presents. It was my birthday in April, just after we started lockdown, so unfortunately I wasn’t able to celebrate it properly, although my daughter did make me a lovely cake - yum yum (or miam miam as they say in French !)

The girl in this cartoon receives lots of clothes as presents. After you have watched it, I wonder if you will be able to draw a picture of your favourite outfit and label it in French? If you do, make sure you take a photo of your drawing and email it in to school.

Au revoir!

History

Take a look at NASA's Image of the Day Gallery. Pick a photo that interests you (or more than one). Why do you think that NASA have included it in this gallery? Why is it important to you? Can you research any more information about it?

Have a great day!

Term 6 - Writing

In literacy lessons, we have been learning about part of S. F. Said's book, 'Phoenix'. We read an edited version of the first chapter, and over the next few weeks, created our own action stories based on that.

Activities - Week 6

Good morning Year 6, It feels like it's been a very long time since we've seen you now, and we miss you all very much. We're looking forward to hearing all about what you've been doing when we speak to you this week! Thank you so much if you've posted a comment on the blog - we have replied to every comment that we've seen. We'd really like to hear some of your 'Magical Door' poems when we call you this week - perhaps you can practise performing your poems before we speak to you? Or, if you prefer, you could post your poems as comments on the blog! If you've been a little slow to return to schoolwork after the holidays, please make sure you've checked the blog posts from the last few weeks. Weekly Activities Literacy 1. Carry on with your diaries. You might not feel that you have anything interesting to write about, but remember that this is a very unusual time. In thirty years or so, your children might be reading your diary to ...

Term 5 - Literacy

In Literacy, we read and wrote discussion texts about whether or not artefacts such as the Benin Bronzes should be returned to their countries of origin. To explore the issue, Year 6 took part in role-play activities and conscience alleys to share their opinions and understand how different people might feel about this topical issue. Year 6 showed great maturity in discussing this topic and were able to express their viewpoints with evidence and arguments to back themselves up.
