Activities - Week 11 - Tuesday

Good morning, Year 6!

Maths

Starter
To get ready for today's lesson, spend at least 10 minutes on Mathletics.

Main Activity

Today's lesson is about equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.

First, watch this video and have a go at any of the questions in it:

Then complete this worksheet: Tuesday's Maths Worksheet.

(Don't forget that you can do this by writing the answers in your book or on a piece of paper - you don't need to print the sheet out.)

Then check your work against the answers: Tuesday's Maths Answers.

GPS

Watch this video about using apostrophes to show contractions, then answer the question below.

Literacy

Over the next six literacy lessons, we will be writing a persuasive text about a gadget or invention (think back to the work we did on the Teacher Pleaser).

First, watch some of these clips about amazing inventions. Then, make sure you have paper and something to write with and follow along with our main lesson. Pause when the video lesson asks you to pause and join in with any activities.

Topic

R.E.

Follow along with the video lesson about moral dilemmas:

(Apologies for the traffic noises on this one - it's been so hot that I've had to have my windows open while I work! An extra bonus activity might be seeing how many cars you can hear - special bonus points if you can tell me the time at which there's a message alert...)

PSHE

Watch this video about Millie: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zmypyrd. As you watch the video, think about the different family groups that Millie belongs to. Answer these questions in your book, or talk about them with your family:

1. What makes a family?
2. How would your life change if you lived with a group of other families, like Millie (this is called communal living)?
3. How does Millie help her community? What jobs would you do to help out the community?
4. Why is personal space important? How do you have a personal space at home, and how do you give others space?

Have a great day! Remember to email us some work that you're proud of and any messages or artwork that you want to display on the school gates: year6.cabot@bristol-schools.uk.

In literacy lessons, we have been learning about part of S. F. Said's book, 'Phoenix'. We read an edited version of the first chapter, and over the next few weeks, created our own action stories based on that.

Activities - Week 6

Good morning Year 6, It feels like it's been a very long time since we've seen you now, and we miss you all very much. We're looking forward to hearing all about what you've been doing when we speak to you this week! Thank you so much if you've posted a comment on the blog - we have replied to every comment that we've seen. We'd really like to hear some of your 'Magical Door' poems when we call you this week - perhaps you can practise performing your poems before we speak to you? Or, if you prefer, you could post your poems as comments on the blog! If you've been a little slow to return to schoolwork after the holidays, please make sure you've checked the blog posts from the last few weeks. Weekly Activities Literacy 1. Carry on with your diaries. You might not feel that you have anything interesting to write about, but remember that this is a very unusual time. In thirty years or so, your children might be reading your diary to ...

Term 5 - Literacy

In Literacy, we read and wrote discussion texts about whether or not artefacts such as the Benin Bronzes should be returned to their countries of origin. To explore the issue, Year 6 took part in role-play activities and conscience alleys to share their opinions and understand how different people might feel about this topical issue. Year 6 showed great maturity in discussing this topic and were able to express their viewpoints with evidence and arguments to back themselves up.
