Good evening, Year 6!
As it is still the Easter holidays, the activities on the blog this week are optional. We're looking forward to hearing about what you've been up to when we next speak to you - have a think about what you'd like to share with us!
As always, we hope that you've been getting outside, whether in your gardens, or walking, biking, scooting or running around your local area. Make sure you take time to appreciate all the signs of spring.
Weekly Activities
Literacy
1. Keep updating your diaries!
2. Watch this video of Chris Riddell explaining how he creates his characters. Have a go at creating your own character (if you're really stuck, then you could always use the character in his example). Once you've got your who, what and where, write a creative story featuring your character (the choice of what to write about is completely up to you)! If you're not sure what to write about, pick from the following ideas:
- Write a scene about your character deciding what they want to eat on a Saturday night;
- What's your character's greatest flaw (a negative characteristic)? How does it affect them? Write a scene showing how this flaw affects them;
- Write about the best memory your character has;
- Write about the most frightening experience your character has had;
- Write about how your character met their best friend (or how they met their greatest enemy).
Maths
Starter
Spend five minutes playing on TTRS.
Main activity
You can do this activity by yourself or with a partner. You will need a die (either the one we sent you home with, or use an online one.
Each person playing needs to draw a grid like this:
Roll the die nine times. Each time, decide where to place the digit you get. The winner is the person whose sum is closest to 1000 once all the digits are added up.
There are two ways to score this game:
1. Each time you win, you get a point. The winner is the first to 10 points.
2. Each time, work out the difference between your total and 1000. Keep a running total. The first person to reach 5000 loses.

Present your information as a poster, information report or get into character as a TV presenter, and present your findings to your family.
Have a great week and stay safe. We miss you!

ReplyDeleteMy dairy is not very interesting bc nothing interesting happened.
ReplyDeleteThere are some good tips here about diary writing: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/how-do-I-write-a-successful-diary/z4h9y9q. The reason we've asked you to keep a diary is because this is such a strange time in your lives - in years to come you will be able to look back and see what you did and thought, and how you felt.
DeleteDiaries don't just need to be full of exciting stories about what you did; diaries can be a record of your thoughts and feelings. For example, if I were to write a diary entry about what I did today, it would be quite boring: made breakfast; read a book; made lunch; went to the supermarket; did some housework; spoke to my sister; played a computer game; spoke to my dad; set next week's activities on the blog.
However, if I were to write about some of the things I felt and thought about today, I think it would be much more interesting. I spent a long time choosing flowers in the supermarket, and I thought about why flowers and plants are important to me (I could write at least a paragraph about that). I wondered how much longer it would be until school returns to normal, and I thought about all the things I miss about being at school (I could write several pages about that). I thought about my friend who is expecting a baby soon, and I had a lot of feelings and worries about her; I spoke to another friend about an essay she is writing for her course at university, and I was really interested in the topic, so we had a good conversation about that...
Hopefully you can see that there are lots of things you can put in your diary - it's about choosing the story you want to tell :)
But i try to make it as interesting as possible
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your diary is really interesting! See above for some ideas about how to vary what you write about.
