Our learning this week This week in maths, we have been learning to do division with and without remainders. In English, our focus has been poetry looking at works by the BAME poet John Agard. We have looked specifically at his poem Windrush Child we have thought about the images he creates with his words.. we have also had a go at performing his poem and writing one of our own. Why not listen to the poem  https://vimeo.com/34658318 and watch one of our performances see below In Art, we have designed and painted our Viking shields here is one example. Home Learning The children have been given their logins for Google classroom where they will find their homework and learning should the school be in a lockdown or a child finds themselves in isolation. Please make sure you make a note of their usernames and password - maybe take a photo with your phone. I f you have problems accessing the online learning because you do not have a device, please contact the school office stating the year
In science, we have been learning about electricity. We have looked at circuit diagrams and have designed and carried out our own investigation around the effect of wire length on the brightness of a bulb or the volume of a buzzer. We found out that the light bulb either got dimmer or did not work the longer the wire was. As part of show racism the red card  we have worn red and donated money. We have talked about the aims of organisation and some of the issues around racisms.  Show Racism the Red Card is the UK's leading anti-racism educational charity. https://www.theredcard.org/ They provide educational workshops, training sessions, multimedia packages, and a whole host of other resources, all with the purpose of tackling racism in society. Established in January 1996, the organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to publicise its message. Across Britain, Show Racism the Red Card delivers training to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

Our learning

As part of our topic learning we have focused on which countries the Anglo Saxons came from and why? We have made the link between them and the Vikings. In English, our current unit of learning is instructional writing and as a pat of this we have followed instructions to make our own Viking long boats have a look at our results. We then went on to write our own instructions to make a Viking sea crossing and have learnt to play a board game  or tafl game ( meaning table) which Vikings played: nowadays the game is known as Nine Men’s Morris and are writing the instructions for others to play. Here is a link to a site that tells you all about it.  https://www.ancientgames.org/nine-mens-morris/ In maths, we have been learning formal methods of multiplication and are now about to move onto formal methods of division. In music, we have been learning the song 'those magnificent men in their flying machines and we have tried to recreate the sound of an aeroplane taking off and flying over
