Carnival!

It's St Paul's Carnival this weekend! To mark the occasion, children and staff at school participated in our own Cabot Carnival. This year's theme is journeys, so every class took a different type of transport and learned a different poem to perform after we had processed to the Courts (in our transport-themed costumes).

Year 6 learned 'Windrush Child' by John Agard, who was one of the poets we studied earlier in the year (we love the way he performs his works). Our transport was cars, so we carefully studied and drew car manufacturers' logos and attached them to t-shits, masks and hats. We had a great time! There was such a lot of partnership taking place in our class in order to get ready for Carnival in time. Don't we look spectacular? Happy Carnival!

      Hi! This is carnival last year - sadly, I don't think we'll be able to celebrate carnival in the same way this year. I really enjoyed celebrating with last year's class though :)

Term 6 - Language Skills

Year 6 have been practising their -ant, -ance, -ancy and -ent, -ence and -ency spellings recently. One fun way we found to practise was by playing a matching game. Children had to turn over a word card and a definition card and see if they matched. If they did, the children had to try to spell the word without looking at the card. If they were correct, they kept the pair of cards. The winner was the player with the most pairs!

Term 6 - Music Week

 For Music Week, we listened to 'The Carnival of the Animals'. Year 6 focused on 'The Aviary'. After discussing the piece of music, we looked at images of birds and then collaborated as a table to create our own bold, beautiful birds. Don't they look great?
