Years 5 and 6 visited Ashton Court today - we had an amazing time! On arrival, Michael (who visited us last week) and Tony (one of the archaeologists there) spoke to us about the site.
Then, we split into groups. Some of us started off by helping out with the dig. We needed hi-vis vests, protective gloves, knee-rests, buckets, trowels and shovels. We found lots of bits of pottery, some tiles, 17th Century glass and a clay pipe! Perhaps the next school to visit will find the lost treasure?
Meanwhile, a group of children were trying to find all the different windows and hidden features of Ashton Court.

This trough was donated by the RSPCA in memory of the horses who died in the Boer War in South Africa!
We weren't impressed by all the horse poo around the stables!
There were so many different types of windows. We had to look up all the time!
We explores some of the grounds, too, but there was so much we didn't see - perhaps some children will return during the summer holidays.
Before lunch, another group got stuck in to the trench!
The archaeologists showed us part of some jewellery that had been found in the trench the previous week.
Later in the afternoon, we explored inside the house. It's a beautiful building!
It was fascinating to see the restoration work taking place upstairs.
Then, it was time for some art activities!
Thank you to all involved in our trip!
